Alice Bhagwandai Singh (1892-1970) was born in Suriname. She was an agent of Social and cultural change. Her immersion into Guyanese society was aided by her marriage, in 1910, to Jung Bahadur Singh, another Indian pioneer. Alice was the first Indian woman to write an autobiography that sheds light on the Hindustani experience in Suriname.
