A highly representative sample of teachers from each school was selected to participate in a survey.

Staff Development is the foundation upon which school success is built. It can take various forms such as peer-teaching, teacher induction and long workshops. According to concerns raised at general teachers' meeting as well as the MERD unit report, teachers were not accessing the quality of staff development needed to improve their didactic skills and to help students to achieve better grades. The issue was established that staff development seemed to be a problem in many schools; hence an organised analysis and comparison of pertinent literature was done in order to view the whole issue from a theoretical perspective.

A vast amount of data was gathered from teachers and headteachers by means of questionnaires and this provided the researcher with a wide collection of professional opinions related to the issue. Responses were analysed and interpreted quantitatively and the findings were carefully noted in order to conclude on teachers' views on staff development in secondary schools on the East Coast of Demerara. Based on these conclusions implications surfaced and recommendations were made.

Date:2011 Availability: Copies available: Turkeyen Campus Caribbean Research Library [LB1737 E55] (1), Actions: Add to cart No cover image available No cover image available
